The Ferrari 250 GTO, produced from 1962-1964, was designed to compete in GT racing. It achieved considerable racing success, securing the FIA's International Championship for GT Manufacturers for Ferrari in 1962, 1963, and 1964. Its successor was the Ferrari 275 GTB.
A lesser-known story involves a dispute between Enzo Ferrari and some of his engineers and managers. In 1961, a number of key figures left Ferrari in what became known as the "Palace Revolt." This event led to a period of internal turmoil, but also indirectly contributed to the 250 GTO's development, as Ferrari needed to prove his continued dominance in racing.
