In the early 1970s, Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged version of the 911 in support of which they planned to create a homologation special along the lines of the Carrera 2.7 RS. A change in the rules negated the need to sell a precise number of street legal race vehicles but the company decided to continue with the project anyway - the Porsche 911 Turbo or 930 was born.
