ODOMETER
1972 Ford Mustang

The 1972 Ford Mustang was labelled as “The Driving Machine” by the Dearborn advertising hierarchy in period. It was an exciting new blend of beauty and action, plus the price point made it an affordable option. The Mustang was touted as being solid with road-holding feel and providing pure driving pleasure. It was “designed to be designed by you,” as the Mustang gave you the opportunity to design your own personal machine from a large selection of colors and trims for your visual tastes and driving habits. The 1972 Ford Mustang that is being offered has a well-documented history that began with a June 30, 1972 build date that was followed by being sold on August 18, 1972 at Santa Monica Ford in Santa Monica, California. Mr. Harold Lindsey purchased the Mustang for $4,277.38, and it was nicely accessorized by the factory. The car has had one repaint in its original Maroon tone with a Black Sebring knit/Corinthian vinyl bucket seat interior with a white power soft-top with glass backlite. According to the accompanying Deluxe Marti Report, this represents one of just 52 similar cars in these colors built in 1972. The car is powered by a 302-cid V-8 engine and is matched to a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes desirable air conditioning, AM/FM stereo radio, tinted glass, color-keyed racing mirrors, whitewall tires; power door locks, steering, windows and brakes with front discs. The Mustang is documented with less than 19,000 actual miles and has experienced only three owners over its lifetime, with the original and second owners having the car for over 20 years each. Unsurprisingly, the Mustang remains in excellent condition throughout. Along with the aforementioned Marti Report, the Mustang also has its original bill of sale, warranty card and a signed letter from past owners confirming the low mileage. The attending Auctions America Specialist confirms the car as “exceptional,” and the nicest 1972 Ford Mustang he has personally seen.
