ODOMETER
1939 Ford DeLuxe Coupe

85 bhp, 221 cu. in. flathead V-8 engine, two-barrel carburetor, three-speed manual transmission with Columbia two-speed rear axle, solid front axle with transverse leaf spring, ¾-floating rear axle with transverse leaf spring, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112 in. This handsome Ford DeLuxe Coupe was discovered in solid condition in Arizona, and it underwent a complete, “no-expense-spared,” 1,000-point, show-quality restoration by Wayne Moore and Jack Smith. Mr. Moore and Mr. Smith specialize in restoring 1939 and 1940 Fords, and the skill of their work shows on what can only be described as a “concours-quality” Ford. At its first judging in 2000, at the Early Ford V-8 Club of America’s Eastern Meet in Concord, North Carolina, it received 999 points out of a possible 1,000. Over the next three years, it went on to win its V-8 Medallion, as well as First Junior, First Senior, Junior Grand National, and Senior Grand National honors from the Antique Automobile Club of America. It is worth noting that the car is equipped with several desirable accessories, among them the very special Columbia two-speed rear axle, which is an original option that makes this car fast, fun, and easy to run at modern speeds. According to the owner, this is the only 1939 Ford Coupe with “the Columbia” that has won an AACA Grand National Award, that he knows of. Additionally, he notes that the car has had only 123 miles since restoration, covered largely in driving through the technical inspections at shows and on and off the display field. This wonderful Ford is being sold for the benefit of World Bicycle Relief, which focuses on providing bicycles to developing countries, aiding in poverty relief and disaster recovery initiatives. Founded in 2005, this organization now has over 100,000 bicycles in the field worldwide, in the service of students, healthcare workers, and budding entrepreneurs, helping individuals and companies grow in striving areas. As a favored charity of the donor’s family, World Bicycle Relief will receive 100% of the hammer proceeds from the sale of this automobile.

FACT

Because, well, why not...?

Until the 1980s, it was illegal for a woman to drive a car down Main Street in Waynesboro, Virginia, unless her husband was walking in front of the car waving a red flag.

This is the only one of these in the database for the moment!
