This 1983 Ferrari 512 BBi is one of 1,007 fuel-injected Berlinetta Boxers built over a four-year production run. It was first registered in New York and was acquired by the current owner in 1989. The car is finished in red over black leather upholstery, and power comes from a mid-mounted 4.9L flat-12 paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, metric-sized Cromodora wheels with three-eared hubs, Daytona-style seats with red accents, power windows, air conditioning, a gated shifter, a leather-wrapped Nardi steering wheel, and a Ferrari-branded Pioneer cassette stereo. The brake calipers were rebuilt in 2020 after the car spent more than a decade in storage, and an engine-out service in 2021 included the installation of new timing belts, fuel injectors, gaskets, spark plugs, and filters as well as a new battery, clutch, and slave cylinder. This 512 BBi is now offered on dealer consignment with factory books, tools, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name. The Berlinetta Boxer model was styled by Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti and was introduced at the 1971 Turin Auto Show. The car features a steel-paneled cabin section paired with a tubular chassis. Aluminum is incorporated for the front and rear clamshells and door panels, while the lower panels are fiberglass. The BB 512i was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1981. The cars were not officially offered in the US and were imported and federalized in-period via the gray market. This example is said to have been repainted in its factory Rosso Corsa under current ownership and features a black rear high-mount spoiler and engine lid grilles. Additional equipment includes a front spoiler, front and rear fog lights, pop-up headlights, side markers, adjustable mirrors, and NACA ducts aft of the doors. The metric-sized Cromodora alloy wheels feature three-ear knock-off hubs and are mounted with 240/55VR415 Michelin TRX tires. A five-spoke wheel with a Michelin space-saver spare tire is housed in the front trunk. The 512 BBi features a fully independent suspension with unequal-length double wishbones, coilovers up front, a double coilover setup out back, and anti-roll bars fore and aft. Stopping power is provided by ventilated discs at all four corners. Rebuilds of the brake calipers were performed by Personalized Automotive Services of Kenosha, Wisconsin, in November 2020. The cockpit features Daytona-style seats trimmed in black leather with red accents. Black leather extends to the dashboard, door panels, and center console, and equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, Boxer-branded floor mats, and a gated shifter as well as a Ferrari-branded Pioneer cassette player with a graphic equalizer. The leather-wrapped Nardi steering wheel fronts Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7k-rpm redline, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles. The 4.9-liter F110A flat-12 features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection utilizing twin CIS fuel distributors and was factory rated at 335 horsepower and 333 lb-ft of torque. A March 2021 engine-out service performed by Personalized Automotive Services included the installation of new timing belts, fuel injectors, gaskets, spark plugs, and filters. A new battery was also installed, and rebuilds of the alternator and radiator were performed. Invoices for the work performed can be seen in the gallery and include reports of smoke at start-up, an intermittent tachometer, and a leak from the water pump, all of which the selling dealer states have since been addressed. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. The flywheel was resurfaced in May 2021, at which time a new clutch, bearings, and slave cylinder were installed. The CV boots and a differential seal were also replaced. The Carfax report shows history in New York and Illinois from June 1983 to December 2021 and lists no accidents or other damage. The Illinois title is listed as a duplicate.
