This 1978 Datsun 280Z was acquired by the seller in 2003 from its reported original owner and subsequently underwent a refurbishment in 2006 as well as an engine replacement in 2021. Refinished in red over black vinyl, the car is powered by a replacement 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes power-assisted front disc brakes, 14″ 280ZX wheels, chrome bumpers, a vented hood, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a rear window defogger, and a Sony CD stereo. This 280Z is now offered with an owner’s manual, removed parts, a rechromed front bumper, a replacement console, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name. The car is said to have left the factory finished in silver and repainted red in 2006. The door and window seals as well as the windshield gaskets were replaced at that time. The seller states that the driver’s side door and front fender were replaced due to damage from hitting a tree. Features include black hood vents, chrome impact bumpers, polished trim, dual side mirrors, and a twin-tip exhaust outlet. Silver-finished 14″ wheels that were reportedly sourced from a 280ZX and refurbished under current ownership wear mixed tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs with rear drums that are said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl and features a Sony CD stereo and a rear window defogger. A factory air-conditioning compressor, condenser, and brackets will accompany the car. The dash pad is cracked, and the driver’s seat upholstery is split adjacent to the lower right bolster. The woodgrain steering wheel was reportedly sourced from a 240Z and fronts a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline, while auxiliary gauges and a clock are mounted in the dash above the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 5k miles and has reportedly rolled over. The seller has added approximately 12k miles. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 2.8-liter inline-six is said to be a remanufactured engine that was installed in 2021. Equipment reportedly includes an electric radiator fan as well as a Monza exhaust system. The seller states that the car does not have a catalytic converter. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that a heavy-duty clutch was installed during the refurbishment. Additional photos of the underbody are presented in the gallery below.
