ODOMETER
1960 Daimler SP250 ‘Dart’

The Daimler Dart was a sports car built in Coventry and was launched at the 1959 New York Motor Show achieving great success in the North American market. Built with a fibreglass body, Girling disc brakes all round and a 2.5 litre Hemi-head V8 engine designed by Edward Turner, the car was described as a 2+2, but the bench-like rear seat offered very limited leg room unless the front seats were pushed fully forward. Thirty black Daimler Darts with the Borg-Warner Model 8, 3-speed automatic were used by the British Metropolitan Police. Daimler were soon forced to drop the Dart name when threatened with legal action by Chrysler's Dodge division, the car was then re-named the Daimler SP250. This particular SP250 has been owned and enjoyed by the current vendor since June 2005. Much work has been carried out but one of the most significant improvements is the fitment of a Borg Warner 35 automatic transmission. Coupled with the 'long legged' 2541cc, V8 engine, this is a very usable and easy model to travel in. Finished in red with a contrasting tan leather trim, it is supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 23 rd March 2012. A much sought after sports car and one that can be driven away and enjoyed immediately after the auction.
