This 1978 Austin Mini is a left-hand drive Mark IV model powered by a 1275cc inline-four, which is a replacement engine equipped with a single SU carburetor and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox. The car was purchased from a collector in Chicago circa 2001 by the previous owner. The previous owner had the original 998cc inline-four was replaced with a 1275 motor that was bored .20 over and rebuilt with high-compression pistons, a performance camshaft, and more as detailed below. The seller acquired this Mini three years ago and has since added approximately 500 miles. Spring 2018 work included an oil change, a brake inspection, and replacement of the fuel level sender and some wiring. A number of spares come with the car as shown below, and the sale also includes factory manuals, maintenance notes, and a clean Illinois title in the seller’s name. The exterior is finished in dark blue with a contrasting white roof and removable vinyl stripes on the hood. Dual fuel tanks have been added, and gas caps can be seen at each rear corner in the photo above. The rear tailgate features Mini Cooper S and 1275cc badging, while the rear glass has an electric defrost. A USA badge is mounted on the front grille, and several stickers around the lower body and on the rear pop-out windows. 10″ Falken tires are equipped at all four corners, and the suspension has been modified for improved handling per the seller. An interior/exterior detail was completed a few months ago, and the floors and sills are shown in the gallery below. The interior features single-piece bucket seats upholstered in black, and a fire extinguisher is positioned at the driver’s sill. This spring, the seller replaced the fuel level sender, fuel gauge wiring, and several fuses. 14k miles are shown on the odometer, which functions intermittently. A Sunpro tach is mounted on the dash and a front section of the passenger’s seat has been covered over as visible above. In the early 2000’s the original 998cc four was replaced with a built 1275 motor featuring a performance camshaft, a rebuilt top end, a .20 bore-over, and new headers. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle, which was reportedly rebuilt under the prior ownership with a 1-to-3.11 final drive. The seller conducted an oil change and brake inspection at the same time as the electrical system work. Note the updated alternator and radiator fan. The seller states that he and the previous owner conducted all servicing for the car, and factory manuals are included along with his maintenance notes. Spares include two Corbeau seats, custom jacks, a spare carburetor, interior parts, custom tools, a cover, a camshaft, and more as presented above.
