1962 Austin-Healey BJ7

The Austin-Healey 3000 was built from 1959 to 1967 and is the best known of the 'big' Healey models. The car's bodywork was made by Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at the BMC Abingdon works. The 3000 was a successful car which won its class in many European rallies during its heyday and also ran at Le Mans during that period; as such it's still used in competition by enthusiasts today. Introduced in March 1961, the 3000 Mk. II came with triple SU carburettors and an improved camshaft; designated the BT7 Mk. II (2+2 seat version) and BN7 Mk. II (two-seat version). However, upon the introduction of the BJ7 model in January 1962, the number of carburettors was reduced to two, mainly due to the problems experienced with balancing three carburettors. Externally, the main changes introduced with the BJ7 were a vertical barred front grille, wind-up windows rather than side curtains, an improved hood and a wrap-around windscreen. This delightful Austin Healey has only had three owners from new. The first owner, Mr. Robert Bell from Redruth, purchased the car in 1962 and took it to Spain for three years. Upon returning to the UK, he registered the car on 19thNovember 1965 and kept the car until 2008. The second owner Mr. James Evans only had the Healey a short time before selling her to the current vendor who could only be described as a very knowledgeable and fastidious car collector. Upon inspecting this BJ7, it is clear 5XPG has been exceedingly well cared for and maintained. Not only does the car sound delightful, she looks and drives superbly well and the benefit of an overdrive gearbox enhances the usability of such a car. Finished in blue with a blue leather trim and supplied with a V5 registration document together with a current MoT test certificate and some history (mainly invoices), the 72,538 miles on the odometer is believed to be correct, although not warranted. Austin Healeys have proved to be a shrewd investment of late, with a genuine low ownership and mileage, an example such as this is sure to be of interest.
