1971 ALFA ROMEO GT Junior 1300
1971 Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1300 No Reserve From a deceased estate; three owners, the current since 1982; last on the road in 1986; complete car in need of full restoration Launched in 1963, the 105 Series Giulia GT Coupe was the long-awaited replacement for the gorgeous but dated 101 Series Giulietta Sprint. It was styled in just two months by a virtually unknown 22-year-old who worked on it in the evenings during his national service. That man was Giorgetto Giugiaro, on contract to Bertone, who went on to become one of the most famous car designers of all time. The balance of glass and metal, soft curves and sharp edges broke new ground in car design and proved highly influential. Rightly regarded as an all-time classic, the Giulia Coupe was to remain in production very little altered until 1976. The GT 1300 Junior came out in 1965 and was powered by Alfa’s wonderfully sweet and high-revving 1,290cc twin cam engine which produced 89bhp, sufficient for a top speed of 100mph and 0-60 in 12.5 seconds. The underpinnings were taken straight from the new Giulia Ti sporting saloon, sharing the same five-speed manual gearbox, independent front suspension, coil-sprung live rear axle and all-round disc brakes. It all added up to a delightful package that offered a seductive blend of performance, handling and style. Coming from the same stable as the Giulietta Spider in the preceding Lot, this particular GT Junior was first registered in May 1971 and has had just three owners from new, our vendor acquiring it in May 1982. Three old MOTs show the mileage rise from 67,388 in 1981 to 82,072 in 1985, the odometer currently showing 94,234 miles as it was taken off the road in 1986. Originally stored indoors, the car was unfortunately later moved outdoors and kept under a tarpaulin which has not done the bodywork any favours, as you can see in the photos. It appears to be complete with no parts missing that we could see, and a good spare boot lid is also included. It is being offered here from a deceased estate as a major restoration project. It may interest bidders to note that the following lot of Alfa Romeo spares (Lot 60) were amassed by the owner of this car over many years and it would appear that there are a fair number of 105 Series parts among them. Please note that the engine in the boot of this car also forms part of Lot 60 and is not included with this project car.
